Artist of the Month - March 2008
James Adams - UK
Working
in a naive style, I hope to break down the relationship
between subject and viewer by expressing the feeling of
childhood joy and abandonment, often through lofty or unusual
perspectives and with a simplicity of form. My work has
an iconic quality, drawing upon a narrative within. My subject
matter often highlights a tension within the landscape,
offering a haunting glimpse of a moment in time. Drawing
upon themes
associated with the Scottish Landscape My paintings
are often a reflection of my own memories of a place and
time , yet are not always specific .
I like to use a muted pallette as I feel this helps to express
the more dream like quality of the Scottish landscape.

Marukh
Akhtar - England
I have
drawn and painted for most of my life since a child. Recently
I have explored black and white painting with the use of
a third colour, following a pop art theme. I have specially
enjoyed this due to its simplicity and the highly visual
impact the pieces make. My subjects are inspired
from celebrities, icons of past and present and famous cult
movies.

Fiona
Carruth - UK
I channel
images from my Spirit Guides and my subconscious and dreams,
and use imagery and symbols from Ancient Mythology and the
Tarot as well as from different
cultures and spirituality to create scenes and portraits
which are designed to use the law of attraction to encourage
positive self-affirmation, and positive self-image, and
to attract such things as abundance, love, harmony, etc.
My main influences from the art-world are the movements
of Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism and Symbolism.

"I
think colour
is a fantastic and important form of freedom and expression."
I take most of my inspiration from my surrounds, actions
and moods.Whether I am walking in a park gazing into the
sky, cooking or even looking through fashion magazines I
find something to feed my artwork. I paint what I feel and
my aim is to show my energy through my paintings.

António
Costa Cardoso - Portugal
I´ve
been painting for twenty years and I've been drawing and
photographing for many more. I enjoy mixing
vivid colours and my paintings enclose a critical attitude
towards our society and our global world. Although it's
paradoxal, the vivid colours I use, are only the surface
of an inner and deeper view of "my" world.

Sonia
Casani - Italia
The
technique that I use for decorating my TILE
MIRRORS and PANELS is an antique Italian method of painting
tiles that I learnt and personalized in 2001. Its name
is “fondente e manganese” and as it has been
handed on verbally it is not well known. I have been lucky
to meet Ugo Paolelli, a master craftsman who decided to
teach me everything he knew.

experimentation with colour, texture and different media
mean my style is varied. I paint what I feel and see at
